The Importance of Glass Curtain Wall

- Dec 05, 2018-

Glass curtain wall refers to the building envelope structure or decorative structure which is composed of supporting structure system and glass, and has a positioning ability relative to the main structure and does not share the role of the main structure. There are two kinds of walls: single-layer glass and double-layer glass. Glass curtain wall is a beautiful and novel decoration method of building wall, which is a remarkable feature of high-rise building era of modernism.

Hollow glass is divided into two layers and three layers. Two layers of hollow glass are enclosed by two layers of glass to form a sandwich space. Three layers of glass are composed of three layers of glass to form two sandwich spaces. Hollow glass has the advantages of sound insulation, heat insulation, frost prevention, moisture proof and strong wind pressure resistance. According to the measurement, when the outdoor temperature is -10 C, the temperature in front of the single glass window is -2 C, while the indoor temperature of the three-layer hollow glass is 13 C. In hot summer, double-layer hollow glass can block 90% of the solar radiation heat. Sunlight can still penetrate the glass curtain wall, but most people do not feel hot when they are exposed to the sun. The room with hollow glass curtain wall can be warm in winter and cool in summer, which greatly improves the living environment.

Glass curtain wall is a new type of wall in the contemporary era. It gives the building the greatest characteristic of organic unity of building aesthetics, building function, building energy saving and building structure. Buildings show different tones from different angles, and give people dynamic beauty with the changes of sunshine, moonlight and lighting. Major cities on all continents in the world have magnificent glass curtain walls, such as New York World Trade Center, Chicago Petroleum Building and Sears Building. The Bank of China Building in Hong Kong, Great Wall Hotel in Beijing and Lianyi Building in Shanghai have also been adopted one after another.

Reflective insulating glass is 6mm thick, wall weight is about 50kg/, it has the advantages of light and beautiful, not easy to pollute, energy saving and so on. The inner side of the outer glass of the curtain wall is coated with colorful metal coating. From the appearance, the whole outer wall is like a mirror, reflecting the scenery of the sky and the surrounding environment. When the light changes, the image is colorful and changeable. Reflected by light, the interior is not illuminated by strong light, and the vision is soft. It was first used in the Great Wall Hotel Project in Beijing in 1983.

People who have been to New York, USA, will be overwhelmed by its prosperous urban landscape. The towering skyscrapers are magnificent, and the glass curtain walls of the whole body reflect the clear blue sky and the fluttering white clouds, which add more brilliant colors. So how is the glass curtain wall made? Glass curtain wall refers to the mirror glass used as the decoration of building exterior wall. It adds trace Fe, Ni, Co, Se etc. to the float glass composition and is tempered into transparent plate glass. It can absorb infrared rays, reduce the solar radiation entering the room and reduce the indoor temperature. It can reflect light as a mirror and pass through light as glass.

Today, China produces 70 million square meters of glass curtain wall every year, accounting for 75% of world production. These productivity forces are entering the world: the tallest building in Europe, the Russian Federation Building, and the 828-metre-high Dubai Halifah Tower, whose curtain walls are from China and are installed by Chinese engineering teams.

China's consumption of glass curtain walls is also surprising. According to statistics, China has 200 million square meters of glass curtain wall, accounting for 85% of the world, and with the pace of building "modern city" in China, this number is still rising.
